Law firm acquisition

According to the Chronicle Herald, lawyers Christine Doucet and Angela Walker have purchased the Halifax law practice formerly led by Mary Jane McGinty, now renamed McGinty Doucet Walker.  The firm is primarily known for its expertise in family law.

We don’t see a lot of purchase/sale transactions of law firms themselves … just another sign of the M&A consolidation trend in many business sectors …

Holland Home Leisure deal

Annapolis Valley, NS’s Holland Home Leisure has announced a partial sale to Mark & Andrea Van Zoost.  Holland is a retailer of outdoor living products, such as pools and hot tubs. Mark is a former commercial banker who decided to take the entrepreneurial plunge, buying the partial interest from Brad Sweet.  Congrats Mark & Andrea!

PR firm deal

Toronto-headquartered National Public Relations has acquired a majority stake in Halifax-based MT&L.

National says it is Canada’s largest public relations firm while MT&L is very well known as a PR and advisory firm in Atlantic, with offices in Halifax, Saint John and St. John’s.

Auto parts deal

Halifax-based AutoChoice is acquiring Moncton-based Buzzell’s Auto Parts, increasing AutoChoice’s size from 8 locations to 18 across Atlantic.  Both operations are so-called jobbers in that they sell aftermarket parts/supplies to independent repair and collision shops, as well as retail.

New Hampshire-based Orion Seafood International has acquired R&D Nickerson Fish Products, a live lobster holding facility in Shag Harbour, NS.

Another interesting consolidation transaction in Nova Scotia’s lobster buying/exporting industry …
