More insurance broker consolidation

Dartmouth, NS-based A.P. Reid Insurance announced the acquisition of Waterdown, ON’s Robert C. Davis Insurance.  A.P. Reid says this is their first Ontario acquisition after expanding into the province earlier this year.

As readers of this blog know, this is another in a long series of acquisitions in the P&C broker industry, originally fueled by insurer acquisitions but increasingly now about mid-size brokers jockeying for critical mass (but largely still financed by insurers).

Amherst-based Archway Insurance has acquired two more insurance brokers, Halifax’s MacLaren Hebb and Musquodoboit Harbour’s Faulkner Insurance.

Kentville-based MacDonald Chisholm Trask Insurance announced that it has joined BrokerLink, a national chain of insurance brokerages owned by insurer Intact.

As readers will remember from past posts in this blog, these transactions continue the insurance broker consolidation trend.

http://thechronicleherald.ca/business/1122451-amherst-s-archway-acquires-snc-of-halifax

Amherst-based Archway Insurance announced it is acquiring SNC Insurance of Halifax.  The two independent insurance brokers have had a relationship for some time, but have now decided on a transaction.  Archway now has 9 locations in NS and NB.  Congrats to the Stack family on another successful deal!

Readers of this blog will recall that this is one of a long list of insurance broker transactions in the region.  A dramatically consolidating industry where strategic industry acquirers like Archway are competing for acquisitions with much larger strategic acquirers (such as insurers or insurer-owned brokers).

NS-based MacDonald Chisholm Trask has acquired Homburg Insurance of Halifax & Truro, NS.  MCT is co-owned by CEO Mike Brien and Intact Insurance (formerly ING).

Lots of folks tell me the independent insurance broker sector has already consolidated, but deals like this one show there is plenty of acquisition interest left.

Amherst Insurance Agencies, a P&C insurance broker with both commercial and personal lines throughout northern NS and Moncton, NB, has sold to Johnson Inc, the national broker based in St. John’s, NL that is itself owned by RSA Insurance (the large insurer in Canada and UK, also known as Royal & Sunalliance).

Still more consolidation in the insurance broker industry (see numerous earlier posts) …
